The Center for the Performing Arts, a Carmel, IN original

Writing - Chris McGrath, Attorney At Law - McGrath, LLCWho says you sacrifice cultural events by moving to the suburbs?

If you have not yet had a chance to check out events at The Center for the Performing Arts, you are in for a treat. Located in Carmel City Center, it’s the heart of year-round cultural activities. The summer concert series, for example, includes everyone from popular music stars like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson (both here in August), to Cole Porter’s Anything Goes (in July), to the Hungarian State Folk Dance troupe closing our their season in October.

On July 20, you can check out some of Indiana’s finest authors, filmmakers, award-winning newspaper columnists, magazine writers, publishers, and musicians – all coming together for a six-hour writer’s studio. “Across the Arts: A Gleeful Literary Celebration” marries the state’s top production professionals with the creative forces behind some of your favorite books and films. The price? A mere $60 for general admission, even less for seniors and students. Imagine a literature fan’s dream come true, where acclaimed New York Times columnists and award-winning film directors (including Academy-award winning filmmaker Angelo Pizzo of “Hoosiers” distinction) will discuss their methods for writing and production. Then, this prolific group will answer your questions and offer insights to help you in your creative path.

The writer’s conference is certain to inspire and entertain, and it’s happening right here in Carmel. Plus, when you buy a ticket to the writer’s conference, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to “All Access,” the Center’s program giving kids in grades K-4 a chance to experience what being onstage and working backstage is all about.

Whether this is your first summer or your hundredth, you are sure to find a variety of excellent live entertainment right in this neighborhood gem.
